SUMMARY:Sensileau Symposium

SUMMARY:The rise of rapid detection methods for viruses and bacteria
DESCRIPTION:Until recently\, the development of sensor technologies for water quality monitoring has largely been focused on (physico-)chemical parameters\, but sensors for the detection of microbial parameters are catching up fast. In light of recent global developments\, two examples will be discussed during this roundtable briefing: Legionella in drinking water\, and coronavirus in wastewater as part of sewer epidemiology studies. Will online monitoring of bacteria and viruses become as common as measuring pH\, conductivity and oxygen with sensors? \nTopics to be discussed include: \n\nVirus detection in wastewater and the potential for suppliers to offer technologies for rapid detection to support the identification of outbreak hotspots;\nIncreased risks of Legionella-proliferation in stagnant waters during lockdown\, and the need for rapid testing for a wide variety of potential customers\, especially if a second lockdown is necessary in some places.\nTransition to more sensor-oriented monitoring programmes for water utilities in order to reduce exposure risks for staff during a potential second wave or other future incidents.\n\nConfirmed participants include Dr. Jordan Schmidt\, LuminUltra’s Applications Manager. \nThis webinar is exclusively for BlueTech Research clients.

SUMMARY:AQUON client group event: blue-green algae monitoring
DESCRIPTION:Sensileau has developed a tailor-made programme for AQUON and its nine water management boards with the aim to optimise sensor use for surface water and wastewater monitoring. As part of this programme\, Sensileau and AQUON organise joint meetings to cover specific topics. \nThis meeting’s topic is: blue-green algae monitoring. It covers online and/or on-site monitoring of algal densities in bathing waters or sources for drinking water production using fluorescence measurement devices. Main questions to be answered include: \n\nwhat is an effective strategy to monitor algae in lakes?\n(how) can algale fluorescence measurement devices be calibrated?\nhow can the reliability of monitoring data obtained be ensured?\n\nA more detailed programme will be published in due course. \nParticipation at this event is limited to AQUON and its clients.

SUMMARY:Podcast: Lead monitoring in drinking water
DESCRIPTION:Following recent events regarding contamination of drinking water with metals such as Lead and Copper\, Sensileau is conducting research to find out how sensor technologies can help to rapidly detect elevated levels of lead in drinking water distribution systems or at the tap. Several events in the USA\, but also recent findings Amsterdam\, the Netherlands\, have shown that pipe materials (and the lack of timely replacements) can have significant negative effects on drinking water quality. In this podcast\, Sensileau’s expert Dr. Corina Carpentier and Mr. Rick Bacon\, CEO of Aqua Metrology Systems\, discuss the importance of being able to measure particulate lead\, how to ensure maximum performance and minimal maintenance of lead analysers\, and ways to act on the data collected. \nThis podcast is a sneak preview of the discussion to follow during the webinar on metals monitoring on January 15th\, 2020.  \nAs of the publication date\, the recording of this podcast is made available via Sensileau’s toolbox.
